Timeflies was the headline group at Program Board's 2013 Fall Fest.

Editor's Note: This story comes to us from our colleagues at the WRGW Music Department.

Despite a moderate turnout for the annual Labor Day weekend concert, this year’s edition of Fall Fest, featuring mashup artist DJ Earworm and pop duo Timeflies, still managed to electrify University Yard.

Opening act DJ Earworm is a San Francisco-based artist best known for his annual “United States of Pop” series, which combines the 25 biggest songs of the year. He is the second mashup artist on the Fall Fest stage in the last three years, with Girl Talk, the first, having headlined the 2011 event.

Kicking things off with a mix of Lana Del Rey’s single “Summertime Sadness” and One Direction’s hit “What Makes You Beautiful” over an electronic backing track, Earworm strung together songs spanning genres, styles and eras, always looking to surprise the audience with the diverse selection of songs combined.

After a short break in between sets, University Yard began to fill up for the headliner, Timeflies, a duo consisting of two Tufts University alums, producer Rob Resnick and vocalist Cal Shapiro. During the duo’s set, Shapiro free-styled to topics that audience members provided, which included the Boston Celtics, Washington Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III and sorority Alpha Phi.

The centerpiece of the performance was a well-researched shout-out to the university, including mentions of losing a fake ID at McFadden’s and food from Jumbo Slice and GW Deli.

The duo engaged the crowd throughout their set with raps set to choruses from popular songs, and they finished the show with their impassioned single “I Choose U,” which has garnered almost 1 million plays on Spotify.

Interscope Records Announces Wale Performance at GW

Interscope Records has published official tour dates for one of its signed artists, Wale, on its website. Included in these tour dates is a performance at GW on September 4th. Program Board is scheduled to be hosting Fall Fest on this day. However, no official announcement has been made by Program Board.

Wale, a D.C.-native, has hosted Fall Fest before in 2008, after Program Board canceled its booking with Girl Talk. The acclaimed rapper's debut album, Attention Deficit, was released on November 10, 2009, hitting #2 on the U.S. Top Rap Albums.
