For her, it started as just a screen name, a gateway to follow friends on the growing blog site Tumblr. Little did she know, this screen name would spark a whole new arena of GW gossip. The inspiration for “Stuff GW People Like” struck while a freshman student (who asked to remain anonymous) was waiting lazily at the airport for her flight.
“When I was at the airport I just made a huge list of things that I thought were funny,” she said. “Up until this point, I have been following that same list for the most part.”
Stuff GW People Like has become a GW centerpiece, sparking conversation, curiosity, and controversy. This has all fed the question; who is behind the idea and the conversation?
The writer, who has asked to remain anonymous, has kept her blog separate from other aspects of her life.
“My friends who do know I write it always tell me about kids in their classes who were talking about the blog” she said.
Now, as the blog has reached more than 450 followers on Tumblr, and 1,200 on Facebook, her motivations about the website remain the same; to keep writing until there is nothing more to write about.

GW Dance Teams REPRESENT
Student dance teams showcased their diverse talent on Thursday night in REPRESENT, GW’s fourth annual dance competition. Six teams, GW Rass, GW Ballroom, Capital Funk, GW Chamak, Balance, and GW Bhangra competed for a champion prize of $300.
The night began with the Colonial’s First Ladies in a dance traditionally performed on center court. Then, for a packed audience, the teams competed through two competitions, the individual and the group performances. After all the points were tallied, GW Bhangra came out on top.
“I was so extited to see that Bhangra” said Saira Thandani, a sophomore, about the victors. “All the teams were really good, but it was clear who the winners were.”
Among the favorites were Bhangra, Rass, another Eastern style dance team, and Capital Funk, the hip-hop crew.
“Capital Funk always has the best performance,” said Kelly Schill, a freshman. “ever since I saw them at CI I have been in love.”
Kenny Cobbs, Class Council president and organizer for the show was pleased with the outcome.
“I am so happy my team and I were able to pull off a good show and bring out some school spirit,” he said.

GW Day of Service
Many people hold Martin Luther King Day to be very dear to their hearts, but for many GW students, it now means something more. Students from all grades were bussed to different locations, on Monday, to clean, repair and improve the surrounding DC area. While many were sent to schools and community centers, others were cent to nursing homes and project sites.
“It was pretty cool helping gout the community,” said Adrian Levit, a freshman from New Jersey. “I wish I could have helped out for longer.”
As many as 2,000 students woke up early and traveled to these different locations to help out. Though many were satisfied, some were disappointed.
“I wish we could have stayed for a whole day,” said Kevin Goodwin, a sophomore, “It seems like a third of the time was speakers, a third traveling a third working. We definitely could have done more work.”
Regardless of time, many students from many backgrounds helped support the DC area and keep Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream alive.

Kennedy Center Honors lights up D.C.
The Kennedy Center Honors is held every year honoring five people who have positively influenced the world with their talents and their ability to unify the masses.
In the words of President Barack Obama, the five men and women who were chosen to receive this year's Kennedy Center Honors have "given the nation the extraordinary gift of the arts." Obama, who spoke at the celebration, was grateful to the contributions of the five recipients.
Honoring the contribution of these sensations was Willie Nelson. Also Merle Haggard, and Broadway legends Carol Channing and Angela Lansbury singing old show tunes. In addition to these greats were celebrities Steven Tyler, Norah Jones, Dave Grohl and Gwen Stefani, Paul McCartney and Alec Baldwin.

Dominic Tierney Speaks to Elliot School about the American way of War
We love to fight, but we hate to clean up. This was the message derived from keynote speaker Dominic Tierney in his lecture on American thought on war surrounding his new book “How We Fight: Crusades, Quagmires and The American Way of War.” Tierney, a political science professor at Swarthmore College, described our addiction to regime change yet our disgust of nation building conflict. Looking back at our “great wars” such as the Civil War, and World War 2, Tierney pointed out that, though multiples more people died, and there were many more civilian deaths, the United States found huge support for the troops. He contrasted this to our “dark wars” in countries such as Vietnam, Korea and the Philippines that led to massive public rejection and disgust. Why? Because, all of the ”dark wars” consisted of the United States attempt to implement democracy or, in other words, attempting to build nations. Tierney argued that Americans need a defined enemy and a clear plan, which becomes increasingly difficult when the enemy is the diplomatic target.

Besides appearing on the WRGW 6 p.m. News and guest hosting "News in Depth," Ryan finds time to be a sophomore international affairs major. Ryan participates in GW's International Affairs Society and Model UN. He hopes to work in government as a foreign affairs analyst, or as a diplomat abroad, while occasionally traveling back to his hometown of Atlanta, Georgia.
Colin O'Brien- is a freshman and a reporter for WRGW News. Originally from Missouri, Colin has adjusted well to city life, from getting a job at the Smithsonian Museum of American Art to spending time with brothers in his fraternity, Beta Theta Pi. He also enjoys listening to Radiohead and starring in musicals - oh, wait, that was in sixth grade. Colin is looking forward to getting more involved in WRGW News.

Joseph Rabinowitz - is a junior in the School of Media and Public Affairs majoring in journalism. He enjoys following Atlanta Braves baseball and trekking to clubs around D.C. to catch his favorite bands. Besides producing and reporting for two news broadcasts each week, you can currently hear Joseph on WRGW on Wednesday nights from 6:20-8 p.m. as the host of his own music show, Gold Soundz.
Alexa Vogel – is a sophomore from Toronto, Canada, and she is excited about working for WRGW as a campus news reporter. Alexa is in the School of Business and is also involved with GW Women in Business. When she is not busy with school, you can often find her at a café in Dupont Circle or planning her next trip around the world.
Sloan Dickey - is a sophomore from Seattle, Washington, who just began his career with WRGW News. Sloan is in the School of Media and Public Affairs and is also involved with GW Sailing, student theater and his fraternity Pi Kappa Phi. Sloan, though born in America, is a wholehearted Canadian (citizenship aside) who loves to watch hockey and snack on poutine. In his free time, he loves to visit museums, see plays and do all that jazz. His aspirations include anchoring a television news network… and that’s about it.
James Reed- is a freshman and a reporter for WRGW News. He enjoys politics, including meeting and interviewing elected officials, watching sessions of the House and Senate, and occasionally visiting Capitol Hill. Aside from WRGW, James is pursuing a double major in political science and economics at the Columbian College of Arts and Sciences. James is also heavily involved in RAC, College Republicans, GW Catholics, and Colonials for Life. He aspires to attend law school after his undergraduate career at GW and to become a future politician of integrity.
Michael Fische- is a freshman and a reporter for WRGW News. Fische is a resident of D.C., though he is originally from Argentina and may or may not have citizenship in this country (long story). A swimmer in high school, Fische has decided to pursue more auditory interests here at GW, and is thus enjoying his time at the radio thus far.
