GW's official Twitter has announced: "At approximately 11:15 PM, GWPD was notified of armed suspects in the I Street Mall area. Both suspects have been caught by MPD."

Reports continue that dorms and streets are blocked off.

No GW Alert or campus-wide Crime Alert has been issued.

WRGW has obtained some raw footage and pictures from the scene. (used with permission by Anna Hoover)

Please stay safe out there as there have been at least 6 shot tonight in DC.

Law & Order: Week of Sept. 6

WRGW's very own Law & Order returns with GW's weekly Crime Log for Sept. 6:

GW Police responded to a report of a theft from one of the GW campus's parking garages. A female student parked her car in one the garages located on campus, and returned a short while later to find her driver's side rear window shattered, and her laptop and books stolen. The case is still open for investigation.

In other thefts, a male student reported his cellphone missing after leaving it unattended on a table in the Marvin Center. Additionally, a female student reported her room key stolen after leaving it unattended in a study lounge on the Mount Vernon campus. A word to the wise: if you leave your personal belongings unattended, they are likely to be stolen.

A former GW student reported to GW Police a sexual assault in the residential area of Ivory Tower. The woman stated that she was assaulted by an acquaintance. The case has been closed, and referred to Metropolitan Police.

An assault occurred on Monday at the corner of 19th and F Streets NW. GW Police was originally called to the scene of a traffic accident. Upon arriving, they found that a witness to the accident had been assaulted by a passenger from one of the vehicles. The witness decided not to press charges.

Just this morning, a woman unaffiliated with GW filed a complaint of indecent exposure at the intersection of 19th and E Streets NW. The woman stated that a male approached her parked car and exposed himself to her, before fleeing.

Finally, GW Police charged a man with disorderly conduct after he was discovered urinating behind Corcoran Hall in University Yard. The subject, who fled when confronted by GW Police, was apprehended. Metropolitan Police also responded, and the subject was barred from the GWU campus.

WMATA Responds to Wave of Theft on Metro

WMATA announced in a press release Thursday a three-pronged strategy to combat a sharp increase in theft on the Metro system, specifically targeting the theft of consumer electronics.

The press release quoted acting Metro Transit Police Chief Jeri Lee as noting that an increase in usage of consumer electronic devices on the transport system has led to a similar increase in their theft, describing the thefts as "crimes of opportunity".

A common strategy is for thieves to wait for riders standing near train doors with phones, music players, or other devices in hand, and then to grab the device from the victim's hand and flee as the train doors close.

Reported robberies on Metro increased 54% from 2008 to 2009, and current trends through January would indicate another significant increase this year. There were 122 robberies in January 2010 alone, compared to 894 for all of 2009.

In response, Metro has increased the presence of transit police in busy stations, and doubled the size of its plainclothes Robbery Suppression Team. The agency has also begun a PR push, posting a safety video to its YouTube account Thursday and planning to place a robbery-themed ad on the walls of trains and stations.

WMATA advises that customers carry electronic devices in a pocket or any place where it is not easily seen or reached, that music listeners should keep their volumes at levels that allow them to still be aware of their surroundings, and that those using handheld electronic devices not sit or stand near train doors.

Law & Order: GWU

First up this week, a fire alarm activated in New Hall, resulted in the evacuation of the building. University Police and local fire crews responded to the scene to find no evidence of an emergency. A pull station was purportedly activated manually, for no known reason. The case is still open.

University Police was contacted by an employee of Gelman Library for a case of disorderly conduct. The employee discovered that an individual had defecated on the floor of the library. The perpetrator is still at large.

A report of a suspicious odor in Munson Hall prompted officers to make contact with the room in question. They received no response after knocking, so the officers entered the room and found a male individual engaged in suspicious activity. The community director was contacted to perform an administrative search, which yield point-4 grams of marijuana and paraphernalia.

A male GW student reported his room key missing after an off-campus robbery. The student was in Ohio when his set of keys and car were stolen. The car was found; the keys were not.

A female GW student contacted UPD to report an off-campus robbery that occurred on L Street. The student got out of a cab at 22nd and L Streets, and then saw a male subject following her. He purportedly shouted, “Give me your money!” twice, and the girl held out her cash. He then took the money and her cell phone from her hand and ran after seeing someone else coming. The student reported the case to both UPD and Metro Police, and the investigation is still ongoing.

Law & Order: GWU

law-7-orderFirst up on Law and Order, University Police was called to the scene of a small fire on the H Street side of the Marvin Center. The contents of a garbage can there were on fire. After dousing the flames, officers investigated the scene and discovered motor oil cans at the bottom of the garbage can. However, they were unable to determine if the fire was set accidentally or on purpose.

A report of disorderly conduct was made up for an individual unaffiliated with GW after he utilized the blue light telephone security system without cause. The alarm was hit at the corner of 22nd Street and Pennsylvania Avenue. When officers arrived, they found a man hanging on to the phone, severely intoxicated. The individual apparently became argumentative and began to shout obscenities at both UPD officers and the DC Fire and EMS crew that arrived to treat him. The man signed a refusal for medical treatment, and was barred from campus.

An officer on patrol filed a report of destruction of property on public property on campus in front of Tompkins Hall. The officer heard a loud crash and observed a male GW student walking away from an overturned motor scooter. The student admitted to knocking over the scooter, which had minor damage from the incident. The student was arrested by the officer on the charge of destruction of property.

University Police were called to Building H at 2000 G Street, which houses multiple counseling practices associated with GW, for reports of a suspicious person loitering. Officers made contact with the individual who stated that he had an appointment with the community legal clinic located in the building. However, the man was speaking incomprehensibly and making nonsensical statements, and was otherwise uncooperative. The individual was thereafter barred from campus.

The Dakota Apartments were the scene of unlawful possession of alcohol after UPD officers responded to a noise complaint. While making contact with the room in question, the officers saw alcohol in plain view. There were 24 individuals in the room, all of who were subjected to sobriety tests. None of the individuals required further medical treatment. All non-GW students who were present were barred from campus, and the alcohol was disposed of.

Law & Order: GWU

law-7-orderWelcome to WRGW’s Law & Order, our first edition back from spring break.

First up, a story from over break. A robbery was attempted in the University Parking Garage at 22nd and H Streets. A masked male subject approached the female complainant from behind as she was entering her car, and he demanded that she give him her phone. The subject fled after the complainant screamed. University Police officers responded and searched the area, but were unable to find him. The complainant’s description states that the subject is a black male, 5’7” to 5’8”, 160 to 170 pounds and of medium build, at the time wearing a black ski mask and a dark bulky jacket.

According the university's Crime Alert system, another attempted robbery occurred yesterday (Tuesday) in the 2100 block of H Street when a male subject grabbed the female complainant's phone and fled west of H Street. A witness followed the subject and caught him in the Metro station. The witness got the phone back, but the subject got on a train and left the area. The subject is a black male, 5'7", 130 pounds, approximately 14 to 17 years old, at the time wearing a turquoise shirt, blue jeans, and sneakers.

A case of simple assault reported by UPD officers on public property on campus. Officers on patrol observed a female, found to be a GW student, staggering through campus. While the officers had the subject perform standard sobriety tests, she attempted to slap one of the officers, as well as removed one of her shoes and threw it at one of the officers. The individual was placed in protective custody and transported to GWER for treatment.

UPD was contacted for two separate cases of lewd acts in the Marvin Center ground floor men’s restroom. On two different occasions, officers received a report of a subject masturbating in the restroom. One individual was unaffiliated with GW, and thus barred from campus. The other individual was identified as a staff member of the university; that case was closed and referred to the department.

Crime Log

In Thurston Hall, UPD officers filed a report of destruction after a fire extinguisher was used. The fire extinguisher activated the smoke detector, setting off the fire alarm at 2:09 AM last Tuesday, February 24th. The individual who used the fire extinguisher has been identified, and the case has been closed and referred to SJS.

Fraudulent use of GWorlds has been prevalent recently, as evidenced by the cases two students whom have been victims of unauthorized charges to their accounts. A female student discovered that her GWorld number had been used to make purchases at online food vendors, while a male student lost his GWorld and then discovered it had been used at a restaurant off campus. Both cases are currently under investigation.

A female student filed a complaint of harassment in City Hall. The student’s roommate purportedly had guests over to the room, and the group began to call her names. The complainant notified hall staff and UPD, but upon arriving at the room, officers found that the roommate and her guests had left. The case has been closed and referred to SJS.

An escort van driver sitting in front of the Mitchell Hall 7 Eleven contacted UPD to report a student he observed lying on the sidewalk in front of Mitchell. UPD officers arrived and found that the student was so intoxicated that he could not stand. Unable to perform sobriety tests, they contacted DC Fire and EMS, who transported the student to the GW ER for further medical treatment.

Law & Order: GWU

law-7-orderFirst up, a student living in Thurston Hall contacted UPD to inform them that she believes her roommate took compromising photos of her without her knowledge. The roommate also purportedly posted the photos online. The case has since been referred to SJS.

Another female student reported multiple occasions of sexual assault by another student with whom she was acquainted. The case is still open.

A female staff member informed UPD that she had obtained a temporary protection order from the city against her ex-boyfriend. The subject had reportedly waited for her on public property on campus and then followed her off campus on at least one occasion.

And finally, the intoxication reports for this week: In two separate cases, individuals unaffiliated with GW were assessed for sobriety at the concert that took place at the Smith Center this past Friday. One of the individuals was placed in protective custody and escorted to GWER. The other was released after officers found that she was not dangerous to herself or others.

Another individual unaffiliated with GW, this one male, was found sleeping in the lobby of City Hall. It was evident that the individual had been drinking. He stated that he was visiting a friend in City Hall, but could provide no information about the friend. Sobriety tests were administered, and the individual was barred from campus after he was deemed not to be a hazard to himself or others.

Law & Order: GWU

law-7-orderWelcome back to another semester of GW’s very own Law & Order! First up, a few assault cases:

UPD officers responded to a possible fight in progress in Thurston Hall. Upon arrival, officers only encountered the complainant, unaffiliated with GW, who stated that someone he did not know previously had kicked him in the head. After an investigation on scene, the subject was identified as a GW student. The cause of the altercation, however, was not able to be determined. The complainant chose not to press charges for simple assault.

Two male students in an altercation were reported on public property on campus. Officers arrived to find the students pushing each other. The two were found to be in a relationship, and had gotten into an argument that turned into a shoving match. The case was referred to SJS for resolution.

A GW alumnus filed a complaint from an off-campus location, stating that an individual he knew who works at the university broke into his home and hit him. Despite suggestions from UPD, the alumnus chose not to report the incident to authorities in his local area.

Drug busts for this week occurred in Francis Scott Key and Thurston Halls. FSK was the site of a drug bust when a UPD officer smelled a suspicious odor. The Community Director on duty responded and conducted an administrative search, which yielded evidence of marijuana (in too small a size to weigh) and other drug paraphernalia. In Thurston, another UPD officer noticed a suspicious odor and contacted the Community Director on duty to perform an administrative search. It yielded 4.8 grams of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

Law & Order: GWU

First up, an individual affiliated with GW reported a theft from his car parked off-campus. Upon returning to the car, he witnessed two suspects emerging from it, and took chase when they fled. He caught one suspect, and held him until officers arrived. The individual reported a few items stolen, including a laptop and charger and a pair of sunglasses.

In other parking news, two employees of the University Parking Garage reported being threatened by an individual unaffiliated with GW. The subject reportedly claimed that he would throw urine at the employees if they did not stop bothering him while he was trying to sleep in the lower level of the parking garage. The employees called UPD, but the individual was gone by the time officers arrived.

In City Hall, a weapons policy violation was reported after a student called UPD on his friend.  He claimed during the phone call that the other student had brandished a knife at him when he knocked on the subject’s door in the middle of a disagreement. But UPD officers, after interviewing both subjects, discovered that both students agreed that the student with the knife simply had it on him, and had not in fact threatened the other student with it.  A community director was called in for an administrative search, and a folding knife was found lying on the living room table.

Our final case occurred in Thurston, where a suspicious odor was reported. The officer on patrol contacted the community director about the room. An administrative search yielded drugs and drug paraphernalia in plain view, including a glass smoking pipe and grinder and less than 1 gram of marijuana residue.

Law & Order: GWU

First up a community director’s administrative search of a room in New Hall yielded several "weapons" recently. Among the discoveries were two air guns, fake plastic rifle bullets, and a toy cap gun that apparently looked very realistic. All items were confiscated.

On Townhouse Row, a female GW student was EmERGed after her friend called UPD. The officers discovered the subject unresponsive but breathing when they arrived on scene. Both EmERG and Advanced Life Support arrived on scene to bring her to GWER. A student from Thurston was also EmERGed with ALS after a friend called to report that he was highly intoxicated and vomiting everywhere. He was also transported to GWER.

A routine patrol of a hall in Potomac nearly resulted in a drug bust. The community director was notified of a smell of marijuana detected while an officer was on patrol. An administrative search yielded no residents currently in the room in question, but it was evident that someone had been smoking marijuana in the room.

Ivory Tower was the scene of an actual drug bust after UPD responded to a report of marijuana being smoked in a car in the garage. Upon arriving on scene officers encountered two male students and one female student smoking in a vehicle; the students readily admitted to smoking. Marijuana and other paraphernalia in the vehicle were confiscated.

Law & Order: GWU

First up the 7 Eleven underneath Mitchell Hall reported a theft last week. The suspect was gone when officers arrived, but they found him soon after as a result of the description given. The subject had no affiliation with GW and no charges will be filed.

A female student was taken to GWER by EmERG from the lobby of Thurston after officers suspected that she was intoxicated. The student also became disorderly with EmERG and hospital staff upon her arrival at the hospital.  Another student, this one male, was taken from Thurston for severe intoxication. He was falling in and out of consciousness, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Thurston was also the scene of a couple of thefts recently.  A male resident and 2 other residents signed 5 other students into Thurston, and then went to the male resident’s room. 1 of the invited students left the room soon after, reportedly with the wallet of the male resident. After the case was reported, a witness recognized the suspect and identified him. Another complainant, this one female, reported that her purse was stolen at this same event. A suspect has not yet been identified. These investigations are ongoing.

And now a special report on two recent cases of suspicious packages. The first occurred on September 16th in Old Main. A faculty member had left his office and returned to find that a suitcase had been placed in it. Police were notified, and they performed a sweep and interviewed individuals in the building. Another faculty member stated that she had allowed someone to place the suitcase in the office for safekeeping.
The other suspicious package report occurred on Friday September 26th. Another suitcase was left by in the Academic Center. The building was evacuated as a result of the officers’ concerns for the security of the package. Soon after, an individual came forward and indicated that she was a visitor to a GW student. She said that she had left her suitcase in the Academic Center, and that this could be the offending luggage. A description proved beyond a doubt that the suitcase was hers; it was returned to the individual, and the Academic Center was reopened.

Law & Order: GWU

Up first, University Police was called to Thurston Hall to assist with an administrative search in progress. A community director carried out the search in a room with 6 male occupants. It yielded 11 point 5 grams of marijuana. The case was then referred to Student Judicial Services.

Next up, a report of simple assault on public property: a female student alleged that she may or may not have been purposely tripped by another student.  The complainant was walking with a group of people when she tripped over the foot of an individual passing by in another group. She sought treatment for a bruised knee.

Another case of simple assault, this time off campus: a female, not affiliated with the school, filed a complaint against a male student from GW with who she was in a previous relationship.  She claims that the subject pushed one of her friends while trying to talk to her at a club, when she would have nothing to do with him. She also believes that the subject slashed the tires of her car at her residence in Virginia.

Another female complainant, this one affiliated with GW, states that she was verbally harassed while at Mount Vernon. She suspected that the subject was an employee of the Mount Vernon Campus.

Finally, an altercation occurred at a townhouse on F Street. The complainant is a male not affiliated with the school, who claims he was punched in the eye by a male GW student. The complainant allegedly bumped into the subject at a party, and was thereafter whaled on. The GW student reportedly had been drinking, but needed no further medical attention. The complainant has not filed criminal charges, and the situation has been turned over to SJS.

Law & Order: GWU

University Police paid a visit to Thurston when a smoke detector was activated. The officers keyed in after there was no response to their requests to enter the room. They reported that the room smelled strongly of marijuana. At this point, the occupants returned, stating that the smell was from lighting pieces of paper on fire. A later administrative search by a community director yielded a grinder, a pill bottle and a plastic bag. All contained trace amounts of marijuana.

Next up, A liquor law violation was reported at Thurston after UPD was contacted about a possibly intoxicated female by the front desk. The student, upon being confronted by the officers, ran through the front doors and headed west on F Street. She was apprehended at the intersection of 20th and F. She explained that he had fled because she attempted to enter Thurston using a friend’s GWorld card and didn’t’ want to get her friend in trouble. The GWorld was confiscated and after sobriety tests, the girl was released. SJS will take over from here.

There was a report of disorderly conduct in front of Guthridge Hall. A male student was arguing with a cab driver over payment. The student purportedly vomited in the cab and the cab driver was looking for payment to clean the cab. And officer escorted the student to an ATM to obtain cash to pay the cab driver for the damage.

And finally, there was a report of indecent exposure on the H Street side of a public garage on campus. UPD officers encountered a 42-year-old white male with his pants down to his knees and no shirt on, attempting to stop people on the street in order to find a shirt. The individual was barred from campus.

Law & Order: GWU

Up first, a run of the mill, but nevertheless bothersome case of pickpocketing. A female complainant told university police officers that she had been sitting at a table in a common area doing work. Three suspicious males were situated at a table next to her. At some point, she noticed that one of the males had kicked her purse; she opened it, discovering that four credit cards were missing. That case is still open.

Next, a case of vandalism out of Thurston…UPD responded to a complaint that a fire extinguisher had been removed from its case and partially discharged in a hallway. The scene was eventually cleaned up and the case closed without any suspects.

Well, UPD received a call about an unidentified man in Kogan Plaza, who was allegedly standing behind a cluster of bushes and exposing his genitals. Upon arrival, officers canvassed the area, but the male “flasher” was nowhere to be found.
And another episode in Kogan Plaza….an individual flagged down officers and reported that he was following a subject on foot who had allegedly vandalized his motor vehicle. Witnesses on the scene told UPD that the escapee had poured beer on the complainant’s car; when the vandal was confronted, he took off on foot. Eventually officers caught up with the suspects (who are GW students); it was evident that they had been drinking earlier in the evening. There were summarily assessed, released and their case was forwarded to SJS.

And last, but certainly not least, UPD responded to a report of someone throwing hot water from an upper floor of the Dakota residence hall. Officers arrived on scene, but could not determine where the water was thrown from. It is also worth nothing that there was a similar case in Madison; officers received a call that someone had thrown water balloons from an upper level window onto the sidewalk below.

UPD Chief Delores Stafford personally requested that WRGW News remind its listeners and readers that any individual injured by such actions is within their rights to file charges on the basis of assault. She reiterates to everyone that throwing any and all objects from buildings is hazardous.

Law and Order: GWU

Up first, a case of panhandling on the 500 block of 19th street near Mitchell Hall…A GW student told UPD that she was confronted by an aggressive panhandler who was relentless in asking her for money. The girl told the individual that she didn’t have any cash…to which the subject responded by shouting at her. UPD soon arrived on scene, but the panhandler had move along.

Next, a drug case off campus leads to intervention by the U.S. Park Police…Here’s how the story goes: 4 GW students were driving in a vehicle down by the Jefferson Memorial when they were pulled over by U.S. Park Police for making an illegal u-turn. While talking to the occupants of the vehicle, the officer reportedly caught a whiff of something suspicious. A search was conducted that yielded a small amount of marijuana. The students were taken into custody and returned to the care of the university where they will be processed by SJS.

Well, the all too common response of a jealous ex leads to an interesting scenario…A female GW student currently in a relationship with another female unaffiliated with the university, reported to University Police the her girlfriend had received threatening text messages from her ex (also unaffiliated) from an out of state location. The texts contained threats to do bodily harm and were laced with profanity. As of this hour, the case has been closed and it is unclear whether the situation has been resolved.

And last, but certainly not least…University Police patrolling the University Parking Garage stumbled across a car on the roof with two individuals inside. It is alleged that the two subjects (who are unaffiliated with GW) were seen engaging in a lewd sexual act. The subjects were summarily barred from campus…it is unclear whether the female participant was “paid help.”

Law & Order: GWU

Up first, a case of harassment that all began in front of the GW Hospital. Here’s how the story goes: a female GW student befriended an Arabic-speaking stranger she met at the Foggy Bottom Metro stop. Since she, herself, speaks broken Arabic, the two began conversing. The exchange ultimately ended in the student giving the stranger her cell phone number. Here’s the catch: now he doesn’t stop calling her. After repeatedly rebuffing his attempts to pursue a relationship, she contacted UPD. There is no word on whether the conflict has been resolved.

Next, a fight in front of Funger and Duques halls…A UPD supervisor on patrol caught sight of two male GW students engaged in a scuffle on the ground. The officer approached the subjects and gave an order to separate. One of the individuals attempted to flee and was quickly detained. As the story goes, the defiant male had been drinking excessively earlier in the evening. After the other individual (an acquaintance) told him he had too much to drink, the subject lashed out. Due to the fact that the intoxicated subject was resistant, foaming at the mouth and swearing, he was arrested and transported to the local detox center to sober up.

Well, concerned employees at the GW University Inn contacted University Police after they discovered a loaded .22 caliber revolver in one of the guest rooms. It turned out that a male patron had checked out and left the handgun in a nightstand. Metropolitan Police eventually confiscated the firearm and brought it to the 2nd District for storage.

A frightening experience for a female GW student…Here’s how the story goes: after she boarded a Metro train at L’Enfant Plaza, the young woman sat down next to a suspicious male. Soon after the train left the station, the individual began touching her knee and ultimately ran his hand up her skirt. The complainant yelled, quickly changed seats and left the train at Foggy Bottom. But the story doesn’t end there. The suspect followed her all the way to Academic Center where she swiped in with a GWorld card. He left shortly thereafter and she later informed UPD of the incident. That case is still open tonight.

And last, but certainly not least, UPD responded to HOVA graduate housing after a health and safety inspector reported that a resident had become combative. It is alleged that the inspector attempted to remove a halogen light from the premises (the possession of such is a breach of university policy) not before a grabbing match broke out between the employee and the lamp’s owner. UPD ultimately arrived and the female subject had no other choice but to turn over the lamp.

Law & Order: GWU

Up first, a case of public intoxication in Kogan Plaza…University Police caught sight of a female individual stumbling around next to the Gelman Library. Officers made contact with the GW student who reported that she was not as intoxicated as she appeared to be, but rather, was exaggerating to be funny. The subject was assessed, required no medical attention, and was sent on her way.

Next, UPD confronted two individuals in the Marvin Center, one of whom was drinking from a flask. The flask was confiscated by officers and returned to the owner – its contents having been dumped out. The owner was not a GW student and ultimately left.

Well, a story that you probably read about in the GW Hatchet recently…A female GW student unlawfully entered the Lerner Health and Wellness center. It all started when a staff member at the front desk asked her for GWorld identification to gain entry. The female subject didn’t have it and was later spotted darting past employees and infiltrating the facilities via an elevator. University police arrived on scene, entered one of the work-out areas and confronted the female subject, who was using a machine. The individual refused to cooperate with officers and was forcefully removed from the facility. She was summarily arrested for unlawful entry. Her case is being processed at this hour.

And last, but not least, an episode you don’t see every day…a case of attempted fraud at the NIH Federal Credit Union. A male subject attempted to cash four different checks made out to an individual from a certain company. After the teller said the checks could not be cashed, the subject started behaving erratically and the teller activated a silent alarm. UPD and MPD arrived on scene only to find that the subject had fled. GW Radio has learned that the checks were made out for an astronomical amount of money. UPD Chief Delores Stafford reported it was in the upwards of multiple millions of dollars.

Law & Order: GWU

Up first, a case of simple assault out of Ivory Tower…University Police received a report that a verbal altercation that had originally taken place at an off-campus night club migrated to the lobby of Ivory Tower. According to the complainant, the argument culminated in a fellow male GW student punching him in the head. UPD arrived on scene only to find that the subject had fled. Charges were, in fact, filed and the case is in the hands of Metropolitan Police at this hour.

Next, a bizarre attempted arson case out of Mitchell Hall…University Police were dispatched to the lobby of Mitchell after receiving a complaint that a plastic bag was on fire in the center stairwell. Apparently, an unidentified individual had torched a Subway sandwich bag with a lighter. DC Fire responded to the scene, but by that time, the blaze had already been extinguished by a UPD supervisor. The case is still open.

Well, an embarrassing episode of public drunkenness out of HOVA graduate housing…UPD responded to an intoxicated female who had passed out in a hallway, not before vomiting and urinating on herself. The individual, who was unaffiliated with GW, was evaluated, transported to GW hospital for medical treatment and ultimately barred from campus.

And last, but certainly not least, big happenings at the Medical Faculty Associates Building on I Street…a verbal altercation between a patient and a staff member manning the front desk ended in a threat from the enraged patron that she was “going home to get [her] gun.” MPD responded, swept the building and waited for the patient to return. She never did.

Law and Order: GWU

Up first, a burglary out of Funger Hall…University Police responded to a complaint of broken glass that was lodged in a door. Upon examination, it was determined that an unknown perpetrator had broken a glass window and opened an office door from the inside. The occupant of the office was eventually located and reported that a laptop had been stolen from the premises. UPD crime scene technicians had an opportunity to investigate the scene; the damaged door was eventually re-secured. The case is still open tonight.

Next, an incident of disorderly conduct on 2100 and H streets…Two individuals were getting into a taxi that was partially blocking the road when the driver of an automobile behind them honked impatiently. This prompted one of the patrons to hurl a water bottle at the car’s windshield. The impatient driver exited the vehicle and a verbal dispute followed. Metropolitan police arrived and summarily broke up the fight. No charges were filed.

A car accident on 20th and F streets…A complainant reported to UPD that he was in the process of making a left-hand turn from F Street on to 20th when a vehicle ran a red light. In attempts to avoid a major accident, the driver swerved and hit a parked car. No injuries were reported. UPD is classifying this event as an apparent “hit and run.”

And last, but not least, a troubling off-campus occurrence…A female GW student reported to University Police that while walking on the 2600 block of K street, she was grabbed from behind and fondled by two male subjects. It was originally believed that they were attempting to rob her. The details surrounding the case remain sketchy at this hour. Police are looking for the subjects.
