UPDATE: The Body of Sen. Kennedy Moved to Boston in a Ceremonial Procession

WRGW's Jared Pliner reporting from BOSTON:

A motorcade now moves down a desolate Route 3, as it transports the body of Senator Edward M. Kennedy to the JFK Presidential Library in South Boston. Motorists have pulled over to the side of the expressway to pay their respects. Onlookers are also perched on highway overpasses, watching the procession. Some are saluting, some are holding their hands over their hearts, some are crying, as their beloved "Teddy" passes his constituents for a final time. The motorcade will complete a loop through Boston, passing several landmarks, including Boston City Hall, Fanueil Hall (where Mayor Thomas Menion will ring a ceremonial bell 47 times to signify Kennedy's years of service in the U.S. Senate), and the Senator's first office on Bowdoin Street, when he served as an assistant district attorney in Suffolk County. An overall emotional scene here in the Bay State on this Thursday afternoon.

Have you bought a car through Cash-for-Clunkers?

[caption id="attachment_2248" align="aligncenter" width="300" caption="New car buyers can secure between $3,500 -$4,500 for trading in their used vehicles. Photograph used with permission."]Clunker Car Picture[/caption]

We want to hear from you.

The popular "Cash for Clunkers" program allows cars with poor gas mileage (generally less than 18 miles per gallon) to be traded in for a rebate towards a new car.

Some say the program will help the environment and auto industry. Others are saying it's a waste of money and a government bailout.

Have you taken advantage of the program? Let us know how it went. Didn't use the program but have an opinion?

Maintenance to close HellWell

The Lerner Health and Wellness Center will be closed from Saturday, August 22nd through Friday, August 28th for "major facility upgrades."

In an e-mail HellWell Operations Manager Valdez Williams told WRGW that the building will be closed for staff training, painting, and so that new equipment can be delivered.

The announcement came in a mass e-mail to students, faculty, and staff.

HellWell says they studied usuage over previous years and found this was the period "least inconvenient for the majority of LHWC patrons."

Questions may be directed to Crystal Oley, the LHWC Membership Director at hwc.membership@gwu.edu.
