Classes to Resume Thursday after Snowstorm Fizzles Out in DC

GW announced Wednesday night that classes will resume and the University will return to a normal schedule on Thursday.  

The University had closed early on Wednesday morning in anticipation of a major snowstorm that was expected to bring potentially a half-foot or more of snow to the DC Metro area.    

Parts of Virginia west and south of DC have seen heavy snow and amount ranging from several inches to 8 inches in Loudon County according to WTOP.com. The Associated Press reports that in places in southern and western Virginia several counties have seen amounts ranging from a foot to more than 18 inches of snow.

However, in DC itself little snow has fallen and even less has stuck to pavement.  According to “The Capital Weather Gang" blog, part of The Washington Post’s website (http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/capital-weather-gang) as of mid-afternoon 0.2 inches of Snow had fallen at Reagan National Airport while 3.5 inches had fallen at Dulles International Airport.  

According to the Weather Gang blog, the snow didn’t materialize as expected in the District and along I-95 because it was simply too warm and the storm, although powerful, was unable to bring enough cold air into the DC area to turn the rain into snow.  

As the afternoon went along, The National Weather service downgraded its predictions and now there is only a winter weather advisory in the area.  Also, there is a wind advisory through 11pm tonight.  Guests could go-up to 55 mph.
