Former Colonial Cabinet Member Runs for SA VP Slot

By Myles Goldman

A former Colonial Cabinet Member and current Student Admissions Representative (STAR) is running to be the next Student Association Executive Vice President.

Will Ellingson, a Junior from Denver, is one of three candidates for the SA VP slot. Ellingson says he is running to input more energy into the SA Senate and make it more accessible to the student body.

"At GW we're constantly moving, zooming from A to B, being a part of something," Ellingson said. "Let's bring some of the movement that is life here at GW to the SA. Some of the buzz that is GW is sorely needed in the SA and in particular the Senate to get it moving again."

Ellingson's platform includes creating a task force that students with an idea to build community can go to for support, an increase in campus security through the use of more tap-access elevators in campus buildings, and more ID checks at night as students enter buildings. Ellingson also says he wants to work with departments like Facilities and Housing to make them more accessible to students.

In addition to being on the 2012 Colonial Cabinet and serving as a STAR, Ellingson was a member of the GW Men's Rowing team, and a mentor in the Business School's First Year Development program. Currently, he serves as a GPS Guide to first-year students and is a brother in the Sigma Chi Fraternity, the same fraternity that current SA President Ashwin Narla is in.

Ellingson compliments Narla's visibility and that Narla is good at convincing people about why they should support his plans. Ellingson said that he wants to bring this visibility to the EVP position as well.

"The EVP position has the tendency to go overlooked by the student body at large," he commented. "Something I would like to work on is increasing the visibility of both the position and the work that is being done to improve student life here at GW. We need an EVP who is just as visible as the President."

Ellingson is majoring in Finance with a secondary field of study in Mandarin Chinese.

Ellingson is running against Kostas Skordalos and Mike Adam for the EVP position. The election is March 20th and 21st.
